If you've spent any time looking at photographer's websites, you've probably heard the term "lifestyle photography" but weren't really sure what it meant. Different photographers define it in different ways, but for me it simply means that the photos actually tell something about the person being photographed instead of being a more generic studio type of photo. My goal as a photographer is not to just take "pretty pictures", it's to create amazing images that tell beautiful stories. I don't want to show what you look like...I want to show who you are.



The location and props used as well as the posing (or lack thereof) all work together to tell something about the child or family or couple being photographed, whether it's a photo of a family playing together, or a child with his favorite toy or blankie, or a high school senior with her favorite book, or mommy and daddy snuggling with their new baby. The photos should tell something about your lifestyle, not someone else's. The photos should be about your family, not my style or ideas.





Although I offer three different types of sessions, with slightly varying approaches and different final products and number of images, the goal with each session is the same: to show who you are (or who your child is, depending on the session!).

May is a pretty big month in the Foltz house - we have an anniversary, two birthdays, the end of school, Mother's Day, and Abbie's dance recital. We bought a house out in the country last year and it came with a barn - not exactly the big red barn with a hay loft that I had been dreaming of, but a barn nonetheless. I took a few photos of my kids in the barn last week and I love how they turned out. I think it's finally time to replace the photos on my living room wall with a few of these!
















I love finding new spots to shoot in! When you're deciding on a location for your session, don't think you need a place that's spectacular - chances are, you'll only see a small section of the location in most of your photos anyway. This is a photo of the outside of our barn - not exactly spectacular! The magic comes in when you find the small spots of good light and add a fun kid!

By the way, the barn was decorated for our Easter party in this photo - it doesn't usually have a purple banner (or crosses) on it! It's also full of stuff - mostly the kids' bikes and wagons and balls and stuff.

I photographed Jacob and Maddie both separately last year, but with graduation looming, their moms wanted a few photos of the cousins together for their open house invitations. We met up at Deming Park in Terre Haute for a quick little session. Jacob and Maddie are both awesome and I know they're going to have a great time (and learn a lot, of course!) when they both start at ISU this fall.
