About Me

I love a good story – as a child, I would spend entire days holed up in my room devouring the latest Babysitters Club or Sweet Dreams book, or rereading Anne of Green Gables for the fifth, tenth, or twentieth time. When I got a little older, I was obsessed with courtroom dramas, especially anything written by John Grisham. Now as an adult I read mostly historical fiction and I really love anything about the World War II era. I love that stories can transport you back to a different time and place, can make you feel different things, and can help you understand where other people are coming from.

I’ve also always loved photography. I spent weekends when I was a kid having makeovers and photo shoots with my best friend. I took photos of my toys. I took photos of my pets and the kids I babysat, and completely random things.  Then in 2000, when I was 19 and just didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, I took a photography class at a community college. That's when I fell in love with the art of photography. I learned how to take photos with manual exposure and manual focus and how to develop the film and print in a darkroom. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world! It was like magic, just putting a plain piece of paper in the developer bath and watching the image appear. I've switched to digital since then, so now I work in photoshop instead of a darkroom, but it still feels magical to me.

Since then, I married my high school sweetheart and had 4 awesome kids, and although my love of photography didn't start when I became a mom, as it does for so many, being a mom changes the way I see everything. Fleeting moments and little details seem so much more important and beautiful now.

I love how the art of photography and the art of storytelling work together to tell the stories of people’s lives – from the births of new babies, to watching children grow up and graduate and get married and have babies of their own – I absolutely love documenting the circle of life for families. These visual stories are passed down just like the stories your grandparents told you on the front porch on a summer night, full of love and laughter and bittersweet memories of days gone by. Your story is special and deserves to be told through beautiful images that you can look at today to remind you of just how amazing your family is and then pass down to your family later so they can be transported back to those days time and time again.

My goal as a photographer is not to just take pretty pictures, it's to create amazing images that tell beautiful stories. I don't want to show what you look like...I want to show who you are.
