Clinton, Indiana Photographer {Happy Birthday, Grandma!}

A few weeks ago, my family got together to celebrate my grandma's 80th birthday with a surprise party - complete with pink princess decorations and a sparkly cape and tiara for Grandma. She had been told it was just a little family get-together since we're not able to get together at her house for Christmas anymore (too many germs in too small a space). So when she arrived and saw not only her family that lives close, but also my uncle that lives in Missouri, my cousin that lives in Oregon, plus relatives and friends she doesn't see often, and even people from different churches my Grandpa pastored over the years, she was definitely surprised.

It was a great time for not only Grandma, but for all of us to get together and catch up with people we haven't seen in a while. Kind of like a mini family reunion. After a couple hours of eating, talking, laughing, and looking through old photos, we all gathered together  to sing Christmas songs around the piano. Good times.

A couple of weeks before the party, my Aunt Mary asked me to go through Grandma's scrapbook and scan some photos so she could print them to hang on the walls for the party. I had a great time looking through the old photos and reading things Grandma had written about her childhood and marriage. I read about how her and my grandpa met, which I don't remember hearing before. She also had some genealogy stuff in the back of the album, and I found a few interesting things there - like I had an ancestor in Kentucky in the 1800s named George Washington Hargis, who named his son Napoleon Bonaparte Hargis. There's got to be a story behind names like that, but no one seems to know what it is.
