When Hillary's mom called me in January to schedule her senior session, I though "wow, it's going to be COLD!" Then we had some really nice weather and I thought we'd be ok but it ended up being about 25 degrees and windy for her session on Saturday. She was a trooper though and you can't even tell how cold she was! Here are a couple from her session, and you can see more on my facebook page. Here are just a few images from my house in January. I miss the older two while they're at school, but I LOVE my days at home with Jack and Jonah! Jack is the sweetest big brother and they're both at super fun ages.

Jack insists on sleeping with at least 2 cars almost every time he goes to bed. Mater and Lightning McQueen are his favorites of course. For weeks after this photo, every time I took him to bed he asked me to take a picture. And he wanted to lay in the exact spot I laid his pillow for it!

We got Jack new Star Wars guys and Duplo Legos for Christmas. He wasn't particularly impressed with either on Christmas for some reason, but on this day he played with them together for most of the morning.

Every morning when Jonah wakes up from his morning nap, Jack wants to cuddle in my bed with him.

Let's Do 52 week 5 - get out from behind the camera! {Clinton IN photographer}

This week's theme for Paint the Moon's Let's Do 52 project was "get out from behind the camera!" The idea was to take a self portrait WITH a family member. I thought and thought about it, and honestly almost didn't even do it. It's such a hassle to get out the tripod and use the timer and run back and forth. I really should break down and buy a remote for my camera. Anyway, I'm so glad I did it! I LOVE this photo of me and my little girl!

Let's Do 52 week 3 {Clinton IN photographer}

Here's my Let's Do 52 shot for this week. The theme was everyday tools. Ok, so this isn't the actual camera that I use every day, but I picked this one from my collection of vintage cameras for this shot because I like the contrast of the black and silver.

Pinewood Derby {Clinton IN photographer}

This is Joey's 2nd year in Cub Scouts and the Pinewood Derby is a big highlight of the year. We are pretty bad about procastinating in this house so even though we had the kit for about a month , it was made in the last 6 days before the race and just finished at 10:45 the night before!

Joey wanted something different, so we searched pinterest for ideas and when we saw a photo of a Wii remote car, we knew it would be the perfect fit for him!

Last year, Daniel (my husband) did pretty much all the work but this year Joey was able to do a lot of it himself and was really proud of it when it was done!

He got a trophy for fastest in the wolf den and another for most original (as voted by the other scouts). He was REALLY proud of that.

Happy Birthday, Karley! {Terre Haute IN event photographer}

Meet Karley, one of the funnest and happiest little girls! When I talked to her mom about a storyteller session, she said Karley's birthday is a BIG deal to her, so it was the perfect day to remember in photographs! Kristin, I hope you love these, and Karley, I hope 9 is a GREAT year for you!

Karley has alopecia, just like my oldest son Joey. You can read more about it here if you're interested. It's not contagious, it doesn't mean they're sick, it just means their hair falls out. In our case, other kids have rarely stared or said anything mean about it, but a few adults have been shockingly rude. Please remember than kids are people and deserve respect and kindness no matter what they look like!

Let's Do 52 - week 2

The Let's Do 52 - Kids Click Too theme this week was toys. Here is Joey's picture for the week:

Both kids used the "big" camera this week (my Canon 7D) and did their own processing in photoshop. Abbie is not that into the editing part yet, but Joey had a lot of fun doing it all himself. He chose his focal point, and experimented with camera angles (all this in between working on his pinewood derby car). No actions for this boy, he did his own black and white conversion, sharpened, and added his name all by himself. I think in a few more weeks he won't even need me to remind him how to do anything!

My little baby is growing up! He's almost 8 months old now, just 4 short months until he's ONE! Since he's my last, I'm a little sad about that! He's sitting up, rolling and scooting, but no where close to crawling, which makes me happy. I'm so not ready for that!

On this day, Jonah was supposed to be napping, and he's usually a GREAT napper, but he was having an off day I guess and wanted nothing to do with that. He just wanted to play. So, I grabbed my camera, took a few (ok, maybe more like a hundred) shots and he was forgiven for not sleeping.

I made him this blanket before he was born. You can't see in this picture, but it has a whale on it. I was obsessed with finding him whale stuff. You know, Jonah and the whale. He loves this blankie and cuddles with it when he sleeps. I made him a mini version so he wouldn't feel the need to carry the big one around when he's a toddler, but he's not impressed with that one. Go figure.

Let's Do 52 - week one {Clinton IN photographer}

I've thought about doing a project 365 (photo a day) or project 52 (photo a week) for a few years but never took the plunge. This year, Paint the Moon is hosting a project 52 with 2 themes to choose from each week AND a kids' version with different themes that Joey (8) and Abbie (almost 6) are so excited about.

This is my photo for week 1 (a little late). The theme was "sharing" and this is Jack and Jonah sharing some cuddle time on my bed. This happens every morning around here and it's one of my favorite times of the day!

Top 11 of 2011 (clents) {Terre Haute IN photographer}

Here are a few of my favorite client images from 2011.

I was so excited when Meredith wanted their session in their home. This was my first session this year and one of my favorites. Makenna was SUCH a sweetheart! I really liked every image from this session, but I chose this one because I liked the texture of the bedding and the light.

This is another image from that same session. This ring was passed down to Meredith and will eventually be passed down to Makenna as well, so I'm sure they'll treasure this photo! I love details like this!

I can't resist a great daddy/baby shot. This is Lucas and his daddy playing at his one-year session in October.

It started raining at the very end of the Barcus family's session, so we took this image under a bridge. I'm SO glad we kept shooting for a few more minutes. This is one of my favorites! I have one similar to this of my own family (taken by the very talented Leslie Ober) and I love it so much. I hope they love this one just as much!

Lyla was a tough cookie. Not that she was bad, it's just a tough age and she wasn't into the whole idea of having her pictures taken. She is a very sweet girl (her mommy is Abbie's dance teacher, so I see her every week), and I'm so glad we were able to get a few smiley photos for her mommy! I picked this one because I liked the light and the color.

April and John had an "old Hollywood" theme for their wedding in October, so we decided to do their pre-wedding portraits outside the Indiana Theater in Terre Haute. When we got there, a 38 Buick drove by. April's friend yelled to the driver and he actually stopped and let us use his car for the photos! I love the look of the images, and I'm sure it's a fun memory for April and John.

This is one of my favorites just because it was a long time coming. I've known the Peabody family for years, they're good friends and we go to the same church, and they are all just SO sweet! This is their first EVER family portrait, and I'm so excited that they finally have one!

I just love everything about this image. Lucas was such a good boy and so very, very sweet!

Olivia and Tyler's wedding was one of the best I've ever been to. You could literally just feel the love that day. The whole day was just full of love and joy, and I felt truly honored to be able to capture these memories for them! This was one of my favorites from their ceremony. Tyler shed a few tears while he said his vows, and it was just a really sweet (and funny) moment.

I love a good silhouette, and we actually got a few at this session, but I love this one because it just screams "boy". I can still hear John's laugh as his dad pushed him as high as he could on this tree swing.

My session with the Marshall family in November was another one of my favorites. I had so much fun getting to know them and walking around the farm where they board their horses. I really liked all their images, but this was one of my favorites just because I've always wanted to shoot in a barn with hay.

2011 was an amazing year, and I'm so excited for 2012! After tomorrow, my two oldest kids will be out of school for Christmas, and after Thursday, my husband will be off for the rest of the year, so I'm planning to take the time off too and enjoy my family. Hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! See you in 2012!

Here are some of my favorite personal images from 2011.

I love this one of Jack because it's just silly. He's a silly boy. He was obsessed with wearing goggles this summer. I think he went through about 5 pair.

I love this one because it really shows his personality and attitude right now. Joey is 8, and 8 year-old boys are, well, full of attitude!

I love this one of Abbie because she looks like a princess and she's so happy.

I love this photo of my kids because 1)it's pretty and 2) it's exactly like I envisioned. I took one of the older 3 like this last year and reshot it to include Jonah a couple of months ago.

I love this image of Jonah smiling at Abbie because it shows how much he loves her and it reminds me of how proud she is when she gets him to smile or laugh. She's such a good big sister!

I love this photo of Jonah because it was taken right after his "fussy period." He was SO good and easy for the first couple of weeks, then we had a rough patch for a while, dealing with stomach issues and just general fussiness. By the time he was 3 months old, he was a happy little guy almost all the time!

I love this one of Abbie because I took it right after she started reading. She's in kindergarten this year and SO proud of herself for reading easy books.

I love this one of Joey, Abbie and Jack because it's the best one I've ever got of the three of them. It was taken a month or two before Jonah was born and I was so excited that they were all smiling and looking in the same general direction! I also love Joey's spotted head in this one. He has alopecia, and his hair has since grown back (at least on his head...his eyelashes are still a bit spotty), but I loved that he was still so confident. We tried to keep his head shaved to avoid the "did he cut his own hair" comments, but he liked it like this and said he was the only kid he knew with a spotted head. Love that kid! But, I'm glad the hair grew back before he got teased much, and I hope it stays this time!

I love this one because 1) my kids are cute 2)I loved Abbie's crazy outfit and 3) I loved the way Jack was looking at Abbie.

I love this one of Jonah because he was so little and adorable. I think he about a week old in this one. And I had planned to use this wagon for his newborn photos ever since I found out he was a boy, so I was so excited to finally get to use it!

I love this one of Jack and Jonah because they are such good buddies. Jack says Jonah is his best friend and he loves him SO much! I can't wait to see how much fun they have together once Jonah gets bigger!

feeling crafty

We usually get the kids a new ornament each year at Christmas but this year I was having a hard time finding one that I liked for Abbie, so I started looking for ideas to make some. I found this idea on pinterest and knew it would be perfect! Making the ornaments was super easy and took just a few hours (only because I made so many - one for each year Daniel and I have been married, plus one for each kid for each year since they were born - 29 ornaments total!). The hard part was finding the pictures. I have all our old ones on CDs in a box, but some years I wasn't very organized and it was hard to find the ones I wanted. I finally found them all, resized them to 1"x1", and laid it out in photoshop with the other squares (each one has their name on one side, the year on another, and two pictures. On the bottom, I wrote a few things they did or liked that year.) They were a big hit and look super cute on our tree! I love finding new uses for photos since I have so many photos and so little wall space!

Jonah is at the BEST baby age right now! Six months is perfect - he can sit up and play, but he's not mobile yet. He's funny and easily amused, but he doesn't get into any mischief yet. Perfect!

I got his hat from Leap of Faith Designs on etsy.com. LOVE her stuff! And this is the same wagon I used in his newborn photos! I'm planning to use it again when he turns one!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families! We had a great day - we stayed home, watched the parade on tv, played games, did some crafts, and cooked a big meal. We have SO much to be thankful for this year. Here's a short, random list, but I could go on and on....

God's grace and mercy

our four amazing kids
our families
dvr - we still watch way too much tv, but at least we're not a slave to the schedule anymore!
a church family we love
living in America - sure, it's got it's problems, but I'd still rather live here than anywhere else
seasons - I'd get really bored if they didn't change!
colors - just think, God could have made the whole world in black and white and we'd have never known the difference. Not sure if it's for our benefit or his pleasure, but either way I'm thankful for it!

Six months of Jonah {Clinton IN baby photographer}

Where has the time gone?!? I can't believe my little man is six months old! Jonah has been the easiest and maybe even the happiest baby yet (that's a tough call - they've all been pretty happy). He sleeps all night, he laughs and giggles, he loves his brothers and sister. I couldn't ask for a better completion to our family.

I've done about half of his "official" 6-month photos and I'm hoping to finish them up this weekend, but my favorites are the little moments I've captured over the last 6 months. I LOVE taking adorable pictures with cute outfits and locations, and we have plenty of those too, but these types of photos are my absolute favorites - just lots of precious little details and moments that I don't want to ever forget.

These sessions are photographed completely in black and white (to keep the focus on personalities and relationships) and tell the story of your life right now. Think about your life right now...what are you going to want to remember in 10 years? Is it the way your son plays with Legos for hours on end, or the crazy faces your toddler makes? Maybe cuddles from your baby, or family game night? Hiking or riding bikes, or a Saturday morning at home? Whatever it is, we can plan a session around it!

sneak peek for the Marshall family {Clinton IN family photographer}}

I had the BEST time at this session with the Marshall family on Sunday afternoon! We met at the farm where they board their horses and walked around to their favorite spots. SO glad Laura thought to tell me to bring boots....I definitely needed them! This was an awesome location, we were blessed with amazing light for most of the afternoon, and the whole family was so sweet and funny.

Laura warned me that photographing horses was about as challenging as photographing toddlers, and she was right! They definitely had their own agenda, and we had to take a little break when they both decided to run off in the middle of the session! I'm SO glad they included them in their session anyway. They spend so much time riding them that I'm sure they feel like they're a part of the family!

The farm also had a really great swing hanging from a tree. This is one of the times I wish I were a better videographer...I wish you could hear John's laugh as he was swinging!

I loved how they all kept their mud boots on for the whole session. Laura carried around a bag with their other shoes because she thought they would change into them once we got through the mud, but then she decided to just keep them since that was "them." I LOVE it when families do stuff like that! I love making images that capture the essence of a family, and I think these really do!

Last summer, I took this photo of my 3 kids; Joey, Abbie, and Jack. I LOVE that image and have it hanging in my dining room, so when Jonah came along, I was just waiting for him to be able to sit up so I could redo the photo with all 4 kids. He's not quite sitting on his own yet, but with a little help from sissy we made it work. I love it even more than the first one and I can't wait to get it printed and framed!

sneak peek for Nicholas {Terre Haute IN senior photographer}

I met with Nicholas (and his twin brother Nathaniel...he's coming up in the next post!) at Fowler Park on Saturday. I tried to be quick, as senior boys are usually not really into the whole senior picture thing! I couldn't have asked for more polite or cooperative boys, though. We were done with both sessions in about an hour and I'm really happy with what we got!

I haven't found a whole lot of photogenic places in Clinton, so we went with my old stand-bys, the wine garden, old train depot, and the side of the old Dreamland Tavern. When April mentioned to me that she was going for sort of an Old Hollywood theme for her wedding, I knew that I wanted to shoot some of their photos outside Indiana Theater in Terre Haute. We didn't actually end up taking very many there though, because when we got there there was a guy driving by in this 1938 Buick and April's friend yelled "hey, can we use your car for a picture?!?!?" and he actually stopped, pulled into a parking lot, and let us use his car for about half an hour. How cool is that?!?! I didn't get his name, but April did so she can send him some pictures. So, whoever you are, thank you SO MUCH!

Happy Fall! {Terre Haute IN family photographer}

It's finally October! I LOVE fall, the cooler weather, the colorful leaves, and the fall festivals. I also love that everyone else seems to love fall, so it's always a busy time for me. If you're interested in scheduling a fall photo session, I have an morning opening on the 8th, and morning or early afternoon on the 22nd available, as well as some limited weekday availability.

I'm also offering mini sessions again this fall. It worked out great last year so I'm really excited to be doing it again! For $150 you'll get an approximately 45-minute session, 15 edited images on CD with print release, and 25 custom-designed holiday cards. These can be for Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or whatever else you want. Sessions will be at Fowler Park in Terre Haute on October 29. Congratulations to Crystal and Ryan! They got married at Raccoon Lake on September 17 and it was a BEAUTIFUL day! Right around 70 degrees and sunny....you can't ask for a much nicer day for a wedding! I love how laid-back and relaxed they both were. It was a beautiful wedding for a super sweet couple!

Olivia and Tyler's wedding was amazing. Not only are they absolutely adorable together, they also seem so HAPPY together. Their wedding was (at least as far as I could tell) free from drama and stress. It was just a beautiful ceremony and a fun reception. It was definitely one of my most favorite weddings ever!

Love this shot! Olivia and Tyler wrote their own vows and ended up improvising a bit. Tyler teared up a little when he was trying to read the vows he wrote and eventually just said "basically, I just want to grow old with you."

Their wedding party was SO much fun! They were up for pretty much anything, even though it was about a hundred degrees out. We were pretty quick because everyone wanted to get in out of the heat!

Dylan was the cutest little ring bearer ever. I loved his hair and his shoes! At first, he didn't want anything to do with the pictures, but then I brought out my secret weapon...smarties! He apparently thought I was the candy lady, because close to the end of the reception, he walked up to me and said "candy?" with this adorable little look on his face. After checking with his mom, I handed him a little package of smarties. He grabbed it out of my hand, said "thank you" and ran away to dance some more. What a little cutie!

We had planned on walking around the campus of Rose Hulman for the photos after the ceremony, but it was SO HOT, so we stayed close to White Chapel.

Their reception was at the Holiday Inn in Terre Haute. Tyler requested this shot of him and his guys at the arcade.

I had a great time at Fowler Park with the Barcus family on Saturday. They are such a cute and sweet family! Here are a couple of images from their family photo session. I was worried about the possibility of rain all day, but it held off until the very end of our session. The second shot here was actually taken under a bridge right after it started raining!

This is the fifth session I've done for the Blair family, and these kids just get cuter and cuter every time! I thought we were going to get rained out, but it held off, although we had yucky overcast skies for the session. Turns out it's not so easy to use a reflector when you're chasing a one-year-old! Andrew just turned one last month and is a busy and funny little guy. Eris was a perfect little model, as usual!

best friends forever {Terre Haute IN child photographer}

My daughter Abbie is best friends with my best friend Crystal's daughter Elisabeth. They are SO funny to watch...they have the same age difference (about 3 years) as me and Crystal and they are SO much like us at those ages! They even have almost the exact same arguments we used to have, then the next time they see each other it's like the argument never happened, just like us! And they TALK....and they talk, and they talk and they talk!

Crystal and I were talking a few weeks ago about how we wish there were more pictures of us together as kids. We can only remember a few. We're also cousins, so there are a few group shots from Christmas and stuff with the rest of our cousins, and there's one from my kindergarten graduation of us sitting under a table talking...we were ALWAYS talking!

So, we decided Abbie and Elisabeth need to have the kind of photos we wish we had, so when they're grown up and they're still friends they'll have these to look back on.

I saw the idea for using old keys as bubble wands on pinterst and HAD to try it. I love how it turned out! SO much cuter than a yucky plastic wand! By the way, I had heard of pinterest but thought it sounded kind of stupid. Then I tried it. It's awesome. It's like a virtual pinboard for things you see online. I have different boards for photo inspiration, things for the house, things to make with the kids, etc. Then each picture you "pin" links back to the website it came from, so you can easily find the instructions or more information later. It's kind of like a favorites folder but with pictures. Plus you can "follow" other people on there and see things they've pinned...so it's a bit of a time suck, much like facebook, but I'm a little addicted. Anyway....back to the photos! I love how these bubble photos turned out!

Abbie LOVES color! All colors really, but pink and purple are definitely her favorites! I love the other photos with the soft colors and black and white, but I love these a little more because they are very ABBIE!

Here they are, reading Anne of Green Gables in their matching dresses. Anne of Green Gables is still one of my favorite books ever. I had a bit of an overactive imagination as a kid (ok, so maybe I still do), so I can totally relate to Anne. That book still makes me laugh out loud!

Crystal and I used to watch the Anne of Green Gables movie over and over and over when we were younger, and Abbie saw it for the first time about a month ago and loved it and Elisabeth has actually read the book already and loves it.

When Crystal and I were younger, I remember us always wanting to match. I don't think we ever had actual matching outfits, but we would at least try to wear the same color as often as we could. When I saw instructions online (on pinterest, of course) for pillowcase dresses, we had to try making them. For my first attempt at sewing (other than a blanket I made for Jonah), I think I did pretty good! Ok, so maybe we're trying to live vicariously through them with the matching dresses, but they are pretty cute! And the girls loved them.

So...Anne of Green Gables AND matching dresses?!?! This one might just be my favorite.

We also made their headbands and flower clips and bracelets. Easy peasy lemon squeezy, as Abbie would say. The flower clips are just silk flowers cut from the stems and hot glued to alligator clips.

For normal client sessions I try to keep the processing fairly consistent...about half and half with normal color and clean, crisp black and whites. Since this shoot was just for me I did some experimenting with different processing and tried some muted color on some, some extra pinky on some (the ones of Abbie with the bubbles), and tried a warmer black and white conversion than I normally use. I'll probably stick to my normal black and white, but these were fun to try for a little change.

The girls were SO good for this shoot, so they were rewarded with supper at Cheeseburger in Paradise. YUM! I hope they continue being BFFs and love looking back at these photos when they're, as Abbie would say, "growing ups".

Bayah's sneak peek {Paris IL newborn photographer}

Bayah is SUCH a beautiful little sweetie! She was so good for her session and barely even made a peep, just needed a short little break for a snack. I had a great time with her and her wonderful mommy and daddy, and her big brother Briar on Tuesday. It was the perfect timing too...I took Abbie for her first day of kindergarten that morning, so having this session kept my mind off of that. They grow up too quick!

Her daddy REALLY wanted a photo of big brother Briar on this tractor wheel, but he was, um...less than cooperative (he's just 21 months old), but Bayah was in a nice deep sleep so we tried her in it. I'm sure her daddy will take her on lots of rides in this tractor when she gets a little bigger!

Rebekah's sneak peek {Terre Haute child photographer}

Sweet little Rebekah is ONE! We went out Saturday evening and got in a quick little photoshoot at Fairbanks Park before the rain started. I love how she's hugging the baby doll in the photo on the right. She loves that little doll!

Note to parents: if your child has a special blankie, or doll, or stuffed animal, PLEASE bring it for your session! Not only is it adorable in photos, it can also be a lifesaver if he or she gets fussy!

Look at these eyelashes! Her brother's and sister's eyelashes are also amazingly long and thick, but I'm pretty sure Rebekah's are the longest I've ever seen on such a little person!

The Johnson family came all the way from Virginia for a family photo session! Ok... so maybe they were here visiting family anyway, but whatever. We had a great time hanging out at Deming Park in Terre Haute. They are such a sweet family and the kids are so polite. They all called me Miss Amy the whole time. Charity (the youngest girl) cracked me up. She reminds me so much of my daughter...girly and funny and dramatic!

Princess Abbie - a child of the King {Terre Haute IN child photographer}

Abbie, like most 5-year-old girls, is obsessed with princesses. When we explained to her that God is the King of kings, so that makes her a REAL princess, she was pretty amazed, to say the least.

I found this dress for her a couple of months ago and have been planning a photoshoot with it since then, but it just never happened until a couple of weeks ago. We're waiting until September for our big family vacation for the year, but we've taken a few little day trips to make summer a little more exciting for the kids. We spent one day in St. Louis and one day we drove over to Indianapolis to the IMA. I was there once last year and wanted to explore the grounds a little more and actually go in the museum. Joey, my little artist, loved the museum, but the other kids were not so impressed. So, we went outside but it wasn't long before Jonah was fussy, so we didn't stay nearly as long as I wanted.

Anyway...I had brought along this dress just in case, and I'm SO glad I did! It was the perfect location for these photos and Abbie was excited to get to wear it.

Rebekah - 10 months old {Terre Haute IN baby photographer}

Rebekah's mommy wanted some images of her while she's still a baby (she's 10 months old) and wanted some silhouettes, so we headed to Deming Park first, then down to Fowler for the rest. She was pretty serious for some of these, but usually she's a silly little girl. In all the ones where she's smiling, it's because her brother or sister was talking to her or playing peekaboo. She wasn't nearly as amused when I tried!

She can actually take a few steps by herself, but she wasn't in the mood this day.

This is the shot we REALLY wanted and I'm so excited we got it! I love the simplicity of silhouettes.

My baby Jonah is one month old now and he is the sweetest little guy! He's pretty much the center of attention around here lately. His brothers and sister (and his Daddy and I, of course) love him SO MUCH. Joey is an awesome big brother, Abbie is such a little momma already, always wanting to help with him, and Jack just ADORES him, which is adorable and sweet, but a little trying sometimes when he wants to kiss him or hug him or play with his hands or feet while he's sleeping. It's been a crazy month, and I'm sure it will get even crazier, but I wouldn't change a thing!

This family (sister and brother and their families) contacted me earlier this year about a family session as a surprise for their parents' 50th wedding anniversary. These photos are from April, but I'm just sharing them now because I didn't want to ruin the surprise!

They wanted to do the session at Turkey Run State Park, which was absolutely beautiful in the spring with lots of flowering trees around, but it was drizzling rain when it came time for the session to start. So...we still went to Turkey Run, but we ended up on the balcony of the Turkey Run Inn for most of the photos. Totally not what we planned, but we made the best of it and I think everyone was happy with the results!

Last weekend, I had the privilege of capturing these moments at a 50th anniversary party for an amazing couple. 50 YEARS! I think it's so amazing and inspiring that not only are they still together but they are still obviously so much in love after all those years.

Their daughter and son got together and planned a photo shoot with me for their families back in April and they used those photos as a gift for their parents. I LOVE how they all wrote on the back of the frame!

A sweet lady contacted me last month about creating an image to display at a women's retreat. She loved this image of my son, but wanted something similar with a little girl looking strong and brave but still gentle. It took took me a little while to get it done (still adjusting to having FOUR kids in the house....it's a little crazy around here!), but I finally got to it this week.

Abbie was my little model and I think she did a great job! The promise of getting paid with ice cream probably helped! We talked about the verses we were going to use and what the pictures were for and had a great little conversation about God helping us and not needed to be scared. I love hearing kids talk about God and how easy it is for them to have faith.

Ever since I found out I was having another boy, I've had this vision of taking his newborn photos in one of our wagons. I found these wagons at a yard sale a couple of years ago and my kids love them and use them all the time, so I'm sure as Jonah grows up he'll play with them too. I love how boyish he looks in these photos and how calm and sweet he looks. I'm guessing the calm part probably won't last too long...before I know it he'll be running around being crazy like his big brothers!

This bassinet is another yard sale find and I made the blanket he's laying on. That's kind of a big deal...I can't even remember the last thing I attempted to sew, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out but I think I did ok. You can't see it in this picture, but it has a whale in one corner. I went a little crazy buying every baby thing I could find with whales on it (to go with his name).

Spring is officially here and there is some GREEN in my yard! Pregnancy always seems to make time drag on, especially in the winter, so I'm SO excited that winter is finally over! The title pretty much says it all...life is always interesting around here lately! Yucky weather, grumpy kids and pregnancy hormones have all contributed to me being in a little bit of a rut lately. So Monday I took out the camera (which, sadly, hasn't been out much lately) and spent the day documenting the cute little moments I don't want to forget. I'll share more of Abbie and Joey later, but for now here are some of my favorite shots of Jack. He just turned two in January and well, he's VERY two! I am SO ready for spring! We're in the middle of a major ice storm here in Indiana and while I totally appreciate the beauty of it, it's COLD and scary. I'm perfectly happy to just stay home and relax, I'm just hoping our power doesn't go out. I headed outside yesterday morning to take a few photos before it got really slick...now I won't even try to go down our porch steps, I'm afraid I'll fall and hurt the baby. Oh, and speaking of the baby...we found out a couple of weeks ago we're having another BOY! Jonah Michael should be born sometime in the middle of May, so if you're wanting a spring session, let me know and I'll do as many as I can in April! I'm planning a day of mini sessions on April 2nd. These sessions will be the same as the ones I did in the fall, $175 for a 45-minute session with a softcover photo book and 15-20 fully edited images on DVD. The sessions will be at a Terre Haute park, not sure which one yet. I may do one park in the morning and another in the afternoon. If the 2nd fills up I may schedule a few on the 3rd as well.

I gotta say...this was probably my favorite session ever! Makenna was SO sweet and happy for the entire session, her mommy and daddy were relaxed and fun, and their house had wonderful natural light. I love the moments I was able to capture for this adorable little family! I loved doing the shoot in their home, I wish more people would choose that option! It makes it so much easier for the parents (especially with a baby) and having their home in the background makes the photos so much more personal and unique! A few days ago I spent some time clearing old videos off my computer (after making triple sure they were backed up on DVD) and I was just amazed at how much she's changed in the last couple of years. She'll be starting kindergarten later this year and she is SO excited about it!

The Cooney family isn't all together very often so they wanted to make sure to get some family photos while they were all together for Christmas. They had recently remodeled their attached garage into living space, so we had a nice open area with plenty of natural light to work with, even on a dreary day. I was so excited that I caught this moment...I wasn't finished positioning them yet, but Daniel gave his mom and sister and big squeeze and they all looked so happy!

These are the three oldest cousins...aren't they all beautiful? I can't wait to do their senior photos in a few years!

I can't believe my little man is almost 2! I'm hoping for a little warm-up after the first of the year so I can take him out for a photo shoot, but until then, here are a couple recent shots of him. Isn't he so cute?!?! I'm a little sad about him growing up so quick, but I'm SO excited to see what an awesome big brother he's going to be when baby #4 is born in May! He loves babies so much...whenever he sees one, he goes "BABY!!! BABY!!!!", then tips his head over to the side and says "awwwww....."

After a very warm fall, winter is definitely getting off to a cold (and white) start! We've had snow on the ground for the past couple of weeks and it's SO pretty! Hopefully it will stick around so we can have a white Christmas!

A couple of months ago, I decided we needed a new picture of my family since Jack wasn't even born yet the last time we took one, and I just realized that I forgot to share it here! So this is my family....my parents, my sister and her family, my brother and his family, and me and my family. This is one of maybe 10...I used the tripod and timer and hoped for the best. I think this is the first one I've ever gotten of the whole group that I didn't have to do head swaps, so I was excited about that.

I wanted to get some of my parents by themselves too, but my dad started feeling bad in the middle of the shoot, so it didn't get done. Here is a link to the photos of them from last year.

I've had several people lately not understanding what the photo books I offer are, so I thought it would be helpful to show a few pictures. The books in these pictures are from a wedding from this past summer. The larger book is 8x10 and includes ALL the edited images from the wedding. So if you see it in your online gallery, it will be in the book. I think it's really important to include all the photos to tell the whole story of the day. The smaller book is 7x7 and is the size included in photo sessions.. They also include ALL the edited images from the session. The smaller books are also available as parent albums for weddings, but are limited to your choice of 60 images from the wedding.

I normally design the books with simple white or black pages to keep the focus on the photos, but I'm working on a few templates to add a bit more color and design elements and will probably offer those as an option next year.

little update on my life

Baby #4 is coming in May!!!! He or she should be born by May 20 (planned repeat c-section, so definitely not later than that). So far I'm feeling great and the baby appears to be perfectly healthy. This ultrasound picture is from 3 weeks ago. We're all very excited and ready for spring! So...as far as I don't develop any complications, I'll be shooting up until early May and then start scheduling a few sessions starting in the middle of June then should be back in full swing by July.

Little Miss Eris is one of the cutest little girls I've ever seen! I did her third birthday portraits last fall and now she is FOUR! I can't believe how much more grown up she seems just a year later! This was a mini-session, which should have taken about 45 minutes...but she was SO good it only took about 25! She was happy to do everything I asked her and I LOVE the shots we got! Can't wait to take her photos again next year!

The Doty family was the winner of the session I donated for a recent fundraiser (for the Buddy Walk for Downs Syndrome). We met Saturday morning at St. Mary's for a (very chilly) family photo shoot.

Little miss Guerin was as cute as can be, but not too happy about having her picture taken, so I was super excited to get this sweet photo. Benny is quite the talker...he kept me entertained the whole time!

Oops! I've been so busy lately I haven't had the time to post anything for a while. Now that things have calmed down a little I'll try to catch up in the next few days. First up is a senior session with Jayde. She is SUCH a beautiful girl, inside and out. I've known her since she was a little girl and I just love her! We did the first part of her senior photos back in the summer in a sunflower field and we did the second half at Fowler Park last week. I just love how these turned out!

Abbie started taking dance lessons a couple of months ago and she LOVES it! She's so stinking cute in her little pink leotard and she loves showing off all her new moves, which comes in handy when she plays America's Got Talent. She thinks it's tons of fun to pretend to try out for the show and we have to pretend to be the judges and say "You're goin' to Vagas, baby!!!!" I love having a little girl!

One of Jack's very favorite things (other than balloons and balls) this summer has been BUBBLES! I actually have to hide them when we're not using them because he will throw a huge fit if he sees them and can't play with them. He's done a pretty good job learning to blow them himself and actually prefers to blow them rather than chase them. He's growing up WAY too fast! Guess he needs to grow up a little though...in about eight months he's going to be a big brother! :-)

I photographed this beautiful little three-week-old girl yesterday and she is just as sweet and adorable as can be! Since she's a little older than most newborns I photograph, she was awake quite a bit more than usual, but I think she did pretty good. I must have worn her out, her mommy said she slept all day after I left!

I almost didn't include this last shot, but when I showed her mommy on my camera screen, she loved it. She said Sophia sleeps like this all the time with her hands in her face. Isn't she SO cute?

Sweet baby {Parke County newborn photographer}

This is Rebekah AnneMarie...isn't she pretty?!? She was almost a Samantha, but her mommy and daddy changed their mind when they saw her. I was at their house for about four hours (mostly just talking...her mommy is my bff) and seriously, Rebekah only cried for MAYBE 20 seconds the whole time I was there...she's just such a good baby! She's also tiny...just a little over six pounds at one week old.

Rebekah is a very lucky little girl...her big brother and big sister both love her SO much!

sneak peek for the Heap family {Indianapolis family photographer}

I met the Heap family yesterday evening at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Why did we plan an outdoor session with two little kids on such a hot day?? Because it was the ONLY day we could do it, as they were traveling from Michigan back home to Tennessee.

Trisha and I were roommates at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids back in 1999...yup, ELEVEN years ago! Thinking about that makes me feel so old! Anyway, I gave in to homesickness and came back home after one semester, but Trisha stayed, graduated, married her high school sweetheart and moved to Tennessee. So a couple of years ago we found each other on facebook, but I never expected to actually SEE her again. Then a couple of weeks ago she sent me a message asking if I would be interested in meeting to do some photos while they were on their way back home. So anyway, we met last night and spent an hour or two out in the heat and I was a little worried how the kids would be, but they were really good, especially considering their ages. I'm pretty happy with the shots we got and I got a few edited today, so here's a little sneak peek. Trisha, I hope you love them! It was wonderful to see you again!

I had a great time with Jayde and her mom Sunday evening. We drove out to McAllister covered bridge in Parke County and did some shots in a field of sunflowers. We're doing the last half of her session later this fall, so I'm excited about that! I've known Jayde since she was a little girl, so seeing her almost finished with high school makes me feel a little old! Jayde, I hope you have an awesome senior year!
